Listing your skills

When you are in a phase of introspection, it is particularly useful to take stock of the skills you have developed throughout your life experiences, both personal and professional.

Identifying them and putting them in writing allows you to:

  • better showcase your strengths in a CV or during an interview,

  • become aware of skills that are often underestimated,

  • and identify those that would be interesting to develop or deepen in a next professional step.

Several types of skills and know-how can be distinguished (according to Guy Le Boterf's definition, 1997):

  • Theoretical : knowing how to understand, knowing how to interpret

  • Procedural : knowing how to proceed, knowing how to operate

  • Experiential : knowing how to manage, knowing how to conduct oneself

  • Social : knowing how to behave, knowing how to interact with others

  • Cognitive : knowing how to process information, reason, learn, put words to what one does

Today, and even more so tomorrow, recruiters are placing increasing importance on social skills, also called soft skills.
They reflect your way of acting, communicating, adapting and collaborating in different contexts.
