What are my fears and limiting beliefs

When you're looking to change career paths, you ask yourself many questions and have lots of fears. You also have numerous limiting beliefs: I don't have the skills, I'm an impostor, I'm not smart enough, not commercial enough...

Fears and limiting beliefs prevent us from taking action, they limit us.

Being able to recognize them and write them down on paper means becoming aware of them, seeing the blockages and being able to work on them to overcome them.

We therefore suggest you write down all the doubts and all the fears that are preventing you from moving forward in your change project right now.

Note them down, prioritize them, from the one that scares you most to the one that scares you least.

Then, try to answer the following question: what would help you ease this fear. Are there concrete actions you can put in place?

Reflections to demystify certain fears

These few reflections will perhaps allow you to demystify some of your fears:

  • Don't see your past experiences as failures in the literal sense of the term. Making peace with your past journey is important for what comes next. Each experience, if you look at it with positive eyes, teaches us something. We recommend reading the book "Les vertus de l'échec" (The Virtues of Failure) by Charles Pépin which gives plenty of inspiring examples of failures that were drivers of success in the lives of those who experienced them.
  • You're not alone in having these questions. More than 70% of employees feel disengaged from the organization they work for.
  • You're not alone and you can get help. Get support.
  • Don't be in a hurry, it will take the time it takes. You certainly don't realize it but each step, each micro-movement you make has its importance and is a step forward.
  • A career change or professional life change can happen at any age. The way to do it may be different; with age we'll take the steps little by little in a more secure way than at 20.
  • The 100% perfect job doesn't exist. You can find a new challenge that's more aligned with yourself and with more meaning but it may also require certain sacrifices or compromises.
  • What you can look for is the next step in your professional life, it's not THE choice of your life. You can make mistakes and start again. A study indicates that we'll all have 10 careers in our lives... That puts the importance of the choice we're making into perspective.
