The intrapreneur is someone who undertakes within the company where they work. They benefit from low risk for undertaking and more accessible resources (human, financial...). However, they are not as free as an entrepreneur.
Being an Intrapreneur might make you think only of creating a new product or service within your company. That's correct but it's not limited to that; It can also be about taking initiatives for better well-being in the company. You can thus bring some of your values, hobbies, passions into your current job, which will contribute to giving it meaning.
For example:
- The person for whom zero waste is very important who tries to change things little by little.
- The person who would like to launch as a yoga teacher and who gives classes to their colleagues during lunch time.
- The one who likes organizing events and who organizes various activities for their colleagues.
One can also be an intrapreneur and agent of positive change for the world. You can help your company become more sustainable and/or more social. It's interesting to make things change within a system because it can create leverage effects. And consequently, solve a problem on a larger scale.
According to Mathieu Dardaillon in his book "activez vos talents", there are two types of intrapreneurs, actors of change in organizations:
- The impact intrapreneur who initiates projects, products, services that are linked to the company's strategy. These could potentially become new "business units" of the company.
- The transformation agent: who helps the company to be more favorable to change.
