This is a question that comes up very often and prevents many people from making the decision to be supported by a coach.
And this is normal, because coaching is an investment in:
- Time
- Money
Moreover, it's someone who will enter your private sphere and towards whom you have many expectations.
You really don't want to make a mistake.
Job&Sense is convinced that the success of this experience will depend on choosing the coach that suits you best.
Currently, we often choose someone through word of mouth. This can indeed be an excellent way to find someone good.
Nevertheless, even if your neighbor/friend/cousin may have loved working with a particular coach, the latter is not always the one who would suit you personally.
This is why at Job&Sense we want to help you make a more informed choice.
Information to know
To make this choice, here is the important basic information to know about your coach:
- Their background: number of years of experience, number of years of coaching, training, certification/diploma, testimonials
- Their specialty: professional coaching, life coaching, burnout, corporate coaching
- The cost per hour of a session
- The framework of meetings: location, face-to-face or via internet, alone or in groups, how long each session lasts, what is the time between sessions...
It is also important to have a first good feeling with your future coach. Often our instinct doesn't deceive us.
Some may need someone very rational, others will need someone more open, for example to astrology, meditation, kinesiology...
Still others will be reassured to find someone whose path is very similar to what they have experienced...
Finally, it is good to have a preliminary interview with the coach before starting any coaching. This first contact will allow you to answer the following questions:
- Did you feel confident with the person?
- Did the coach understand your situation and aspirations?
- Did you feel heard?
- Did he mention how he generally works ? How many sessions would you need on average?
- Did you have a good feeling?
Don't hesitate to speak with several coaches before making your choice.
Listing of coaches
Although coaching is a booming practice, it is not yet regulated in Belgium. Consequently, anyone can present themselves as a coach, whether they have received training or not.
To help you choose a qualified professional, two Belgian federations (ICF Belgium and EMCC) offer recognized certifications in the sector. However, it is important to note that certification is not an absolute guarantee of competence.
We encourage you, as mentioned above, to also trust your intuition and look for a coach with whom you feel confident and who will know how to listen to you attentively.
To find a certified coach near you, consult the online directories of both federations:
– ICF Belgium: you can search by location, language, specialization.
– EMCC: you can search by location, language or field of activity.
