Knowing your values

Values are the moral principles we uphold and the pillars on which our personality is built. They form a foundation, like a backbone, that defines us, influences our choices, our decisions and our relationships with others and with ourselves. Anchored in us through our upbringing, they can evolve according to our life experiences, our encounters and our priorities.

Our values define us.

Why know the values that are most important to us?

Defining them and reflecting on them allows us to know ourselves deeply. Putting them on paper helps us better understand our reactions to certain past situations (personal and professional life choices, disappointments, injustices, betrayals, successes and failures...) but also to better guide our future choices.

Values and work

It means asking the question: Are the values I defend not in complete contradiction with the spirit, atmosphere, methods and objectives of the company I work for?

The exercise

You will find a list of values by clicking here. Copy and paste this list and print it. Read them calmly and choose 5-10 that are most important to you, those that resonate with you most.

That's done, now try to prioritize them from 1 to 10.

You will thus know the fundamental principles that govern your life and you will be able to better understand or better guide your choices.

An online test to discover your values

It can also be interesting to take an online test that can help you discover which values are most important to you.

In French or English: The Schwartz model.

Conclusion

Once your values are identified, observe how they concretely translate into your behaviors, your choices and the skills you mobilize on a daily basis.

Don't hesitate to share this content with your loved ones. It could be useful to them.
